Came here for the first time for dim sum after hearing Nathan's had retired and the owners also owned our local fave dim sum spot Joy City a couple of miles away. Place was close to capacity, so that's always a good sign, right? Well, the service was swift; however, not much interaction between the staff (5) and our party of 4. During our 50 minutes there no smiles served, just bringing us our food, placing it on the table, and walking away with zero interactions. Had to ask for ice water and tea pot to be refilled 3 times, even though we had the tea pot lid partially tilted (Chinese way to signal need refilling). The food was a tad different in both taste and quality compared to Joy, and the dim sum menu offerings were identical. Chicken feet weren't as plump and a tad overcooked, the bottom of the shrimp w/chive dumplings weren't pan fried long enough, and my fave pineapple bun with custard didn't have that crisp, crumbly topping as Joy. Aside from that, everything else we had was pretty good. I'd come here again and recommend to all; just hoping the service will be improved over time. Other than that, have sum dim sum at Nathan's!
We arrived around 10:45 a.m. The restaurant already had some customers seated, we were seated right away. You tell the staff what type of tea you want, $1.50 per person for the weekend. They give you the menu card, and you can write the no. of quantity you want for the dim sum you want. We had Siu Mai, har gao, steamed custard buns, rice rolls with Chinese donuts, stirred fried noodles, and steamed BBQ pork buns. Their dim sum is flavorful and not fatty, especially the siu mai. I'm very picky about siu mai. My baby boy enjoys his food. Baby approved. The restaurant is a little crowded with many people. I feel it's better to come here with a small party. The staff is nice. Parking is always not a problem.
Our regular place to go to Nathan, retired and new owner used Hong Kong and now Joy city and this restaurant just started serving dim sum
Nathan's Chinese Cuisine has been our local go-to spot for authentic Chinese food for the past 15 years, and it never disappoints. Although Nathan recently retired, we're happy for him and glad to report that the new ownership is keeping the food just as consistent and tasty. The beef and broccoli dish surprised us with how generous they were with the beef--no complaints here! My favorites, the salt and pepper beef and honey walnut shrimp, are always on point. My mom tried the beef and green beans this time, and it was a solid choice. We usually order to go, but when we dine in, we appreciate the spacious dining area that can accommodate large groups. The restaurant is always very clean and well-lit. We're excited to come back when they launch dim sum and see how it stacks up!
Stopped by here last weekend, ordered a little bit of everything. The salt and pepper wings are our favorite! Always 2 orders of those lol! Service is always good! They make sure to take care of the customers and provide quality food. Always fresh. Definitely also recommend the honey walnut shrimp.
One of my normal spots for Chinese in the EG area. Although it doesn't match up to some of the places in Sac, its proximity makes it one of my family's go-to places to grab some food. The Spare Ribs with Honey Garlic Sauce is very flavorful. Fried Rice w/Dried Scallop Egg Whites is a menu item we always get & had been consistent throughout the years (but it would be difficult to mess up fried rice). I must remember to skip over the Tomato Beef Chow Mein; the flavor is off and the coloring looks odd as well. Although it is typical for me to feel dehydrated after Chinese food, I feel especially parched after eating food from Nathan's, indicating high levels of salt and/or msg. Prices are affordable & portions are good. I just recommend eating in moderation, since sometimes the food is too oily & salty for me to consume large quantities at a time.
This is your typical Chinese food restaurant with similar dishes everyone has grown and loved. They are consistent and have plenty of room for people that want to take a family party over. Check out some of the dishes that survived, that we ordered! All employees are attentive for water or any other extra orders! Thank you for a great experience! A+ for service and food quality!
